Steve McClaren and Newcastle United are set to battle it out with former Toon manager Alan Pardew for a number of transfer targets in the coming weeks, reports the Daily Star.

Pardew, who is currently in charge of Crystal Palace, is reportedly interested in bringing a number Newcastle’s transfer targets to Selhurst Park this month.

One of those targets is Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who the Magpies have been heavily linked with over the last few weeks.

Another United transfer target that Pardew wants to nab is prolific QPR striker Charlie Austin, who is believed to be available for around £7.5million.

Loic Remy is a name that has been touted with a move to Tyneside in recent days, but if the Daily Star are to be believed, then Pardew fancies his chances in signing him too.

Also, it has been reported that Steve McClaren will have to persuade Lee Charnley to pursue his transfer targets, rather than chief scout Graham Carr’s preferences.
