Far too often have we seen scuffed opportunities and missed chances lead to Newcastle United’s demise, especially this season. Today was no different. The Magpies should have easily won this match by 3-4 goals, but they barely squeaked by with a 1-0 win. After all, three points are three points, no matter how it’s done and NUFC thoroughly deserved this one.

Tiote scored a goal, which was disallowed due to an imaginary offside, Townsend hit the post, Wijnaldum should have scored a few and Mitrovic missed an open net, etc. Despite all of this, Newcastle United are now outside of the bottom three for the time being after a brilliant performance.

Here are my 5 thoughts on the match:

1. Today we got the good version of Jonjo Shelvey; he absolutely dominated and bossed the midfield. It’s become a common theme throughout the whole team and you have to start questioning why players are always performing better at home than on the road, specifically Shelvey and Wijnaldum. Jonjo was great at home vs West Ham but was a no-show at Watford and Everton.
