Leicester City moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League after beating Newcastle United, thanks to Shinji Okazaki’s first-half strike.

Newcastle started the game brightly and enjoyed a lengthy spell of dominance, but it was Leicester who broke the deadlock with 25 minutes on the clock.

Okazaki acrobatically connected with Jamie Vardy’s header to put the Foxes ahead.

Replays showed Vardy in a clear offside position to assist the opener, though the commentators and pundits elected not to discuss this -for fear of spoiling the fairytale, I assume.

The Magpies continued to pile the pressure on the Foxes after the goal but to no avail.

Newcastle were also denied a penalty late on, after Wes Morgan’s arm blocked Moussa Sissoko’s shot in the box

Rafa Benitez would have hoped for a better result, but the Spaniard cannot fault his players for their performance against the league leaders.
